About Us

The British Tamil language examination board (BTLEB) was established by professionals who are currently examiners of other national examination boards and head teachers or heads of departments at national schools.

The BTLEB Examinations have been conducted in the four key areas, namely speaking ,listening, reading and writing, successfully for the last two years.

About the qualification:

In order to fill the gap created by Tamil Language not being recognised as one of the Asset Languages, we have structured this specification to satisfy the OCR Asset Language scheme. The BTLEB follows the accepted pattern for foreign languages and conducts the examination in four key skills and under strict examination conditions annually. This has grown year on year, and attracts hundreds of pupils from other UK Tamil schools who enter their candidates with our board to sit their examinations. Most importantly, the National Curriculum for England and Wales is followed very closely in preparing all levels of our examination materials.

The national curriculum is organised in to blocks of years referred to as “key stages”
(KS). At the end of each key stage, a formal assessment is carried out to identify the candidate’s performance.

Our first series of examinations were conducted in 2023/24 in accordance with the England and Wales examinations rules and regulations. We are in the process of achieving the recognition and accreditation of national examination boards and would appreciate this application being taken into consideration.
